Reusable straws offer an eco-friendly alternative for disposable plastic drinking straws. There are many materials available, including food-grade silicone, 18/10 Stainless Steel, and reusable, BPA free plastic. You also have a variety of styles (such as straight, bent or collapsible).

Stainless steel is the strongest option. This means that you can punch through the top of a cup. However, temperature transference is something to be aware of. The material retains heat and cold which can make it useful for cocktails but dangerous for coffee. Silicone is the best choice if you need a straw that stays at room temperature even when it’s submerged in hot or cold beverages. A stainless steel straw with a silicone tip is a good choice for sipping. Glass straws are prone to shatter or chip so we did not include them in the guide.

Regular cleaning of reusable straws is important to prevent mold and germs. The straws come with a brush to clean them. The straws can be washed in a dishwasher, but it is best to run the scrub brush first to remove any stuck particles.

There are two colors available: blue and green, red and grey, and two sizes. The 10-inch straws can fit into most 20- to 30-ounce tumblers, as well as large Starbucks drinks. The 8.5 inch straws can fit beverages less than 16 ounces. The latter are best for home open-top drinking. The straws are of average width and can be used to make thin smoothies. However, they are not large enough to hold a small piece of frozen strawberry or tapioca pearl.

The large handle of the scrub brush is also appreciated. It makes it easy to clean the straws.

Best stainless steel reusable straws

The Hiware 12-pack stainless steel straws is suitable for many drinking styles and beverage sizes.

A completely stainless steel straw is an option if you dislike the silicone feel or prefer your straw to absorb the temperature of your drink. If you are going to use your stainless-steel straw to brew hot coffee, we recommend that you do a touch test. We should also mention that all-metal straws can be dangerous for children and those who chew their straws.

The Hiware 18/10 stainless-steel 12-pack includes six straight and six bent straws. They come in two sizes, 10 inches and 8 inches, to meet all your drinking needs. Because they offer a more comfortable drinking angle, the bent straws work well with taller beverages.

The straws can be washed in the dishwasher, but Hiware includes two cleaning brushes. To get rid of any stuck particles, we recommend running a brush over your straws before you put them in the dishwasher.

What reusable straws can be used in hot drinks?

Because silicone straws don’t heat up as well as stainless-steel straws, they are better for hot drinks. Safety concerns with hot drinks and straws are not related to the material’s degrading or leaching chemicals but the temperature at which the straw body touches your skin. Hot beverages are more enjoyable when straws are made entirely of silicone or with silicone tips.

What size straw should I buy?

Straw sizes are not standardized in the industry. Instead, they vary in length and diameter depending on their intended purpose. When purchasing straws, consider your drinking habits. If you drink a lot of smoothies every day, it might be worth buying a larger straw. You can also measure the height of your favorite cup to go. A standard 20-ounce tumbler will fit a 10-inch straw.

Boba straws are the best category for accurate sizing. Unfortunately, there isn’t any agreement among straw companies about the correct diameter. These straws are between.36-.5 inches in diameter. It is better to buy a larger straw and then reduce the size if you need it.
